5/21/2020 0 Comments Modern Dreamy Destination WeddingFrom the start, Ash & Robin knew that they wanted a wedding that expressed their love of travel, the outdoors, warm sunny weather and relaxation! After all, both brides were busy in school completing their PhD's so a December destination wedding in the Dominican Republic was the perfect way to unwind and begin their lives together. Ash & Robin began planning and preparing for their wedding over a year in advance, the ideal timeline for planning a destination wedding. Although a destination wedding can be planned on the fly; having time to prepare, seeing the site in advance and finalizing a guest count is key. Luckily, Ash & Robin had been to Paradisus Punta Cana Resort previously and adored it, so choosing to get married there was easy! They could easily daydream about their afternoon garden ceremony, sunset photos and poolside reception after having stayed there previously. With the venue booked, the next step was choosing vendors. The beautiful brides-to-be choose Susie & Will Photography from Las Vegas to accompany them during their week in paradise. Susie and Will beautifully captured the radiant glow of Ash & Robin and the modern, romantic aesthetic of the day. You can feel the love of these two in every photo ! ♥ The couple wanted to be sure their florals were picture perfect. They choose silk "forever floral” bouquets, boho floral crown's and the bridal parties bouquet/boutonnieres from Kendon Design Co. These faux bouquets and crowns are absolutely stunning pieces of artwork that the couple will keep as a memory of the day forever! The decor for the garden ceremony and evening poolside reception featured beautiful linens, real banana leaf floral arrangements, and glowing zig-zag bistro lights. The effect was straight out of a magazine! The beautiful day concluded with sunset photos and a moonlit dance party. It was an absolute pleasure helping Ash & Robin plan their wedding! We met these vibrant and beautiful women a few years ago while planning a wedding for a family member of Ash. It has been so wonderful to follow along with this love story and an honor to help Ash & Robin plan their wedding.

2/11/2020 1 Comment Romantic Italian Inspired weddingFrom the very first date Stefania & Darren knew they were perfect together. Their love of adventure, travel, great food and fun bonded them instantly. When it came to planning their wedding, the couple was totally in sync with their vision for the big day. Stefania and Darren's romantic wedding was filled with personal and meaningful choices. The farm venue was inspired by Darren’s youth and family; he grew up enjoying all that farm life had to offer by often visiting his grandfather’s farm. Stefania’s Italian heritage and love of Italy inspired the decor of the reception as well as the overall vibe of the day. The day started with a beautiful outdoor ceremony, guests stayed warm with blankets & hot apple cider while Stefania and Darren exchanged vows. Following the ceremony guests moved inside to enjoy cocktail hour and a bespoke scotch bar. The couple chose to share their passion for fine scotch with their guests and paired each scotch with tasting notes and personal stories. Some of the personal details of the reception included a large map at the guest book table that showed where the couple had traveled alone and together. This was paired with travel photos of the couple and a vintage luggage card box. Close friends and family shared emotional speeches and guest enjoyed a carefully selected soundtrack. Stefania and Darren’s wedding day ended with a full dance floor and delicious cake. John, from John & Samantha Butler Photography, captured the day perfectly. His artistic and moody style captured all the most meaningful moments; the couple’s vows, the bride with her grandparents and unique photos of the bridal party enjoying the day! We are so honored to have worked with this beautiful and amazing couple to plan the day that celebrated their incredible relationship. We wish them all the best as they start their next chapter!
Photography: Erin Leydon The natural beauty of Muskoka and a love for spending time with family and friends drew Kirsten and Mike to a plan a weekend wedding at camp Muskoka. Guests spent the weekend gathering around campfires, playing classic camp games, sleeping in camp cabins, and of course attending the incredible wedding.
Guests arrived on Friday night and were welcomed with dinner and drinks and a fun plaid theme. Following dinner guests enjoyed a campfire where the couple was “roasted” by their closest friends. Saturday morning was filled with yoga, camp games, and other outdoor activities.
Cocktail hour followed the ceremony; guests enjoyed custom cocktails and a beer canoe on Pine Hall’s large wraparound balcony that overlooked the lake. When guests entered the reception space they were greeted with tables of flowers, wood, and gold details and candlelight. After touching speeches, the party kicked off with energetic music from the grooms family band (that included his two brothers and father). Guests enjoyed butter tarts for deserts, a classic Muskoka favorite and danced late into the night. We are so happy to have played a part in bringing Kirsten and Mike's dream wedding to life! We provided this couple with our You’ve Got Style Package, a Custom Bar Package, Day-Of Coordination and Planning Support. A big congratulations to this beautiful and kind couple, we wish you all the best in the years to come and hope your wedding is remembered during all of your summers in Muskoka!
11/8/2018 0 Comments Two Days of Love!July 14 &15 2018 Fatema and Wasif are the perfect example of a great team. These two met at university (where they were in the same program) and complemented each other’s personalities perfectly! They worked together to plan a beautiful wedding weekend, each planned one of the nights. This weekend was full of family, friends, smiles and love! Ruksati - Markham Convention Centre Fatema knew she wanted everything to look beautiful and for the night to run smoothly. She chose a beautiful blush, gold and white colour scheme and decorated the ballroom with sparkling golden trees and floral centerpieces. Fatema wore a gorgeous gold cream and pink sari that compliment her kind & sweet personality perfectly. Some of the extra details Fatema brought in included: candid photos, a fun photobooth, a Jenga guest book, and sparklers to end off the night! These extra little touches really stood out to the guests as they mingled throughout the evening. Walima – Crystal Fountain
Wasif wanted to make sure there was delicious food, a good flow to the evening, and great music. He chose a blue & silver colour palette and brought in soft light through the floating candle centerpieces. A flute player echoed sweetly throughout the crystal room as guests savored the most unbelievable dessert spread we've ever seen! The most special touch he added was his surprise performance for Fatema. The room was moved as he played the guitar and sang to his bride. Fatema & Wasif did an amazing job planning their wedding. As month-of coordinators we couldn’t have asked for a better prepared couple. With over 400 guests our day-of priorities were to keep the events on schedule, ensure the flow of each evening ran smoothly, and ensure the venue, vendors and guests all knew what was happening next. We are thrilled to have been a part of Fatema & Wasif’s big weekend. It was a pleasure to see this couple working so well together and we wish them all the love & happiness in the world! “Olivia and Rachel were such a huge help throughout our wedding weekend celebrations. They were able to cater to exactly what we needed for day of coordination for our events and helped make sure everything was set up beautifully and running on schedule. They were always thinking about the little details and were kind enough to check in and update my husband and I in our bridal suite.” - Fatema Vendors

Hello Hello Hello, If you'd like to transport your wedding guests to the sunny skies of California no matter what the season, we've got the right style guide for you! We’ve created this gorgeous theme, along with a mood board and 6 steps to follow so you can recreate our Cali Inspired Wedding look. STEP ONE - Colour Pallet For a Cali wedding start with a base of white on white, if you find this too simple try using different monochromatic textures and patterns. Next add in oranges and corals, these will bring warmth to your design. Add some small accents of pale blue and green and your done! Keeping colour simple and concentrated will ensure design stays sophisticated, be mindful that your florals, attire, and venue all contribute to your wedding colours. STEP TWO - Rose Gold I always love including metallics in my wedding design, for this style I chose to work with rose-gold because it blends with the oranges and corals of the colour pallet. I wanted a metallic that wouldn’t stand out too much and would add soft touches of light, depth, and texture. STEP THREE - Florals For your floral choices mix bold blooms, tropical greenery and succulents! You don’t need to go crazy with flowers for this wedding a few bold accents will go a long way, focus on your bouquets, bouts and isle. Succulents can be used as part of your centerpieces and given as wedding favors at the end of the night. If you want larger succulents to decorate your space or to create a photo background check with family and friends many people have plants in their homes! STEP FOUR - Venue For this type of wedding I love an indoor/outdoor venue, consider a roof top pool or an outdoor terrace. If you’re working with an indoor venue look for a space with large windows, terracotta floors, or white brick walls. All these features will contribute to a fresh Cali look. STEP FIVE - Attire Keep your clothing light and casual! Try a wedding gown that has bold lace and a flowing skirt. For your Maids consider long gowns with a plunging neckline or a thigh high slit in mix-matched shades of coral and orange. For the guys go with linen suits and skip the ties. STEP SIX - Accents Finally add a few accent pieces, mix and match both geometric and bohemian styles for a unique look. These pieces could be a floral or jewelled headpiece, a macramé wall hanging, barefoot sandals, terrariums, geometric candlestick holders, or a triangular arch at the end of your isle. Get creative and choose pieces that speak to you! I hope this Cali Inspired Style has warmed your heart and spiked your creativity! If you need help bringing your theme to life, creating a mood board or transforming a space check out our 'You've Got Style' package you can also send any questions (big or small) to info@joyeventsandco.com.
XOXO, Rachel Happy Wednesday! Your wedding planner is someone who you will be in contact with for months, maybe even years prior to your event. Having a friendly, fun, and trust-worthy working relationship with your planner is important. So today on the blog we wanted you to get to know us a little better! We first became a team when our mothers brought us into the world, just twelve days apart! However, less than a year later Olivia's immediate family moved to Vancouver, where she spent her adolescent life. Through snail mail and a few cross country visits, Rachel and Olivia kept in contact. When Olivia moved back to Ontario she and Rachel reconnected. They were both working in the wedding industry and the decision to combine their strengths and abilities was very natural. Together they created Joy Events & Co. Rachel- aka. Family/friends, great shoes and sunny days! What is one piece of advice you would give to couples preparing for their wedding? Don't sweat the small stuff, decisions like the color of your napkins, or your salad dressing or even your wedding dress may seem like a huge deal in the moment, but at the end of the day you guests won't know the difference, no one is going to come up to you on your wedding day and say "I really wish you chose a balsamic vinaigrette instead of a honey Dijon dressing". Keep things in perspective and make choices you love. Olivia- aka. Liv What is your role at Joy Events & Co? I am the Wedding Planner at Joy Events & Co., I will assist and guide you through your wedding planning journey. A good wedding theme will help you to achieve your desired aesthetic or vibe and it will help you make decisions about décor and attire. This way when you’re asked a question like “What dishes do you want?” You can confidently make the right selection knowing that they will compliment your other design choices… not fight them! Now that we’ve cleared up any confusion around ‘themes’ lets jump right into it. Joy Events & Co.’s Top 10 Tips for an Elegant Garden Party Wedding!
1/12/2018 0 Comments Wedding Day Makeup Tips from a ProHappy Wednesday Beautiful Brides to Be! With the summer weddings booked and planned, we wanted to bring you some information from one of the vendors you will be in the closest contact with. Your makeup artist! We got in touch with Daniela from Face Time with Daniela, a highly rated and amazing mobile make-up and hair artist. She was happy to answer some of the most FAQ's we get from our clients. If you've been thinking about natural wedding looks and when to do hair/makeup trials, then this is the blog for you! How soon before the wedding should a bride get her hair/makeup trials done? Ideally the bride should book her hair/makeup trial 6-8 weeks before her wedding day. Trials are a very important preparatory step and should not be rushed. Taking the time during the trial to perfect the look is key in not only determining your look for the big day, but helps tremendously to speed up the beautifying process on the wedding day as well. How long should the bride expect for hair and makeup to take on the day of?Based on the results of the trial, generally I like to book 2 hours for hair and makeup for the bride. Now, every bride is different, and her hair type, skin type, desired look, use of hair pieces and/or extensions, bridal party size, and many other factors come into play. Spending the time to prepare at the trial and communicating up until the big day is significant in having everything run as smoothly as possible. How much time should she leave for her and her whole party to be hair and makeup ready? When the bride is starting to plan out the morning of the wedding, she should allow at least 45 minutes for makeup and 60 minutes for hair, per person; and for herself, as a general guideline. Timing, and more importantly start and end times does depend on what time the ceremony starts/her reveal, and what time the photographer arrives to start pictures. I like to create a schedule to ensure everyone knows where they are supposed to be and when. What advice would you give to a bride who is not used to wearing much makeup?I would say don't feel overwhelmed, you don't have to know exactly how you want your makeup to look. Rather, be mindful of the type of occasion and how formal it is; the dress you will be wearing and accessories; and equally important, how you want your pictures to look. Then discuss these factors with your makeup artist and weigh in their tips and advice. If you are still unsure, ask friends or coworkers about their wedding makeup and their photos, and maybe things they would have done differently, or things they are really glad they did. Any tips on helping the makeup last in these hot summer months?
My top tip for making makeup last through the hotter months is being strategic with your products and where you apply them. For example, if your makeup tends to run under your eyes, keep your eye makeup and mascara on the top part of your eye lids. If your concealer tends to crease under your eyes, try applying it only on the inner and outer corners of the eyes, instead of slathering it all the way underneath. Another tip is to keep blotting papers in your purse and at your desk to keep oil at bay. My favourite product for summer is setting spray-great not only for setting makeup but for refreshing throughout the day. Lastly, tell us about you , your company and what you offer! ❤ My name is Daniela and I have been a makeup artist for 7 years. XO Liv & Rachel 12/17/2017 0 Comments Scotch and Snow Styled ShootAs the weather grew colder and the leaves started to fall, we were full of ideas for winter weddings. We thought the best way to share them with you was through a styled shoot! So we started to plan, Liv and I discussed a dark color pallet, simple elegant details, and a moody romantic vibe. We took our inspiration from industrial architecture, 1930s design, and bold florals. From here I put together a mood board and Liv started contacting vendors. We sourced antique furniture, fur, and glassware and mixed it with great new pieces like the Irene dress from Watters, beautiful tableware from Event Rental Group and a huge ruby ring from Phyee Collection. We also had pieces made specifically for the shoot and we couldn’t be more thrilled with them, Edelweiss Studio created a full suit of invitations and we had a beautiful icy cake from Cake or Death. Our models were absolutely amazing as they smiled through a long cold day. We really wanted to create a sexy, mysterious mood, and they nailed in. Hair and Makeup was done by the very talented Norzin who created a soft glam look through a subtle smokey eye, strong liner and gentle waves. Our photographer Cass Rudolph and her assistant Natty brought our vision to life. Cass shot rich, soulful photos and used professional grade lighting equipment to create contrasts and shadows. Over all we wanted our styled shoot to inspire you, hopefully you take something away from these photos that you can use in your own wedding. As always, if you have questions about creating a mood board, choosing vendors, or sourcing and styling we are here to bring your ideas together seamlessly and within budget. Hope you enjoy looking at the photos as much as we enjoyed creating them!
